US Treasury plans $119 billion debt auctions next week

    October 2, 2026

WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – The U.S. Treasury Department will offer $119 billion of notes and bonds through three auctions next week. The schedule begins Oct. 6 with $58 billion of three-year notes. Treasury will sell $39 billion of 10-year notes on Oct. 7. It will complete the sequence Oct. 8 with $22 billion of 30-year bonds. The three offerings follow Treasury’s regular financing calendar and match the auction sizes outlined in its latest quarterly refunding schedule.

US Treasury plans $119 billion debt auctions next week
Treasury debt auctions will cover three-year, 10-year and 30-year securities next week.

The three-year note represents a new issue and will mature on Oct. 15, 2029. Treasury will reopen an existing 4.625% note for the 10-year auction. That security matures on Aug. 15, 2036. The 30-year sale will reopen a 5.125% bond that matures on Aug. 15, 2056. Reopening an existing security increases the amount outstanding while retaining its original coupon rate and maturity date. Investors can submit competitive or noncompetitive bids under Treasury’s standard auction process.

All three securities will settle on Oct. 15, according to the U.S. Treasury Department’s published schedule. Competitive bidders specify the yield they will accept for a security. Noncompetitive bidders agree to take the yield established during the auction. Treasury releases the final pricing and bidding data after each sale closes. The results typically include the high yield, accepted bids and allotment information. Treasury notes and bonds pay fixed interest and represent a major component of federal marketable debt.

Treasury lines up three consecutive debt sales

The October offerings follow September auctions for the same 10-year and 30-year securities. Treasury sold $39 billion of the 10-year note on Sept. 9. The auction produced a high yield of 4.834% and attracted about $105.8 billion in bids. That resulted in a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. The security carries a 4.625% coupon and matures in August 2036. The October reopening will add another $39 billion of that note to the amount already outstanding.

Treasury sold $22 billion of the 30-year bond on Sept. 10. That auction produced a high yield of 5.308%. Investors submitted about $57.5 billion of bids, creating a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.61. The bond carries a 5.125% coupon and reaches maturity in August 2056. The October auction will add $22 billion more of the security. Treasury will publish the final yield, price, accepted bids and allotment data after the sale closes Thursday.

Auction sizes match October financing plan

The auctions form part of a broader borrowing programme for the final quarter of 2026. Treasury estimated $628 billion of privately held net marketable borrowing for the October through December period. That projection assumed a cash balance of $850 billion at the end of December. The federal government raises marketable debt through regular sales of bills, notes, bonds and other securities. Treasury adjusts issuance across maturities through its established financing process while publishing auction schedules and borrowing estimates for investors.

The $119 billion total matches the October amounts Treasury listed in its August financing plan. That schedule called for $58 billion of three-year notes, $39 billion of 10-year notes and $22 billion of 30-year bonds. The three-year auction will open the sequence Tuesday, followed by the 10-year sale Wednesday and the 30-year sale Thursday. Treasury will release official results after each auction, providing the pricing, yield and demand figures associated with next week’s three U.S. government debt offerings.
